CONGREGATION OR CHADASH SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE
The Social Action Committee’s work supports the Jewish tenets of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) and Gemilut Chasidim (Acts of Loving Kindness) and fills the soul with a warm feeling. Here are some ways to be involved:
PRIMAVERA – The Primavera Foundation provides pathways out of poverty through safe, affordable housing, workforce development and neighborhood revitalization. The congregation provides meals for the homeless men who are based at Primavera.
SISTER JOSE WOMEN’S SHELTER - The shelter is dedicated to the care and nurturing of homeless women within our community by providing beds, food, showers, comfort and companionship to women who have no place else to go.
PROJECT ISAIAH FOOD DRIVE - Our congregation partners with the Jewish Community to collect food during the High Holidays by being part of a food drive that benefits the Tucson Community Food Bank.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Join others from our congregation to participate in building a home for low income and hardworking local families.
MATZA AND MORE – Since 1970 Jewish Family & Children’s Services and Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona has assisted local families celebrate a traditional Seder by holding its annual “Matza & More Passover Project.” Congregation Or Chadash participates by donating a food product to put in a Passover Basket.
POZ CAFÉ – In cooperation with TIHAN, the Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS NETWORK, the congregation participates in the POZ Café which provides a luncheon for HIV/AIDS positive individuals one time a year.
MITZVAH MAGIC - Mitzvah Magic, an anonymous giving program run by Jewish Family and Children’s Service, who identifies needy Jewish families. Each Mitzvah Magic “circle” prepares gift baskets for their designated family for Back to School/the High Holidays, Chanukah and Passover.
INTERFAITH COMMUNITY SERVICES - ICS helps Pima County seniors, individuals with disabilities and people in financial crisis achieve stable and independent lives through programs and services. You can make a difference by volunteering with them or help our committee collect food for the pantry during the year.
