Meet Rina Liebeskind ... New Religious School Director Congregation Or Chadash
I was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel.
I moved to Tucson AZ. with my husband Jim in 1987 and have been here ever since. Jim and I have two daughters, Sharon who is 20 years old and Eve who just turned 12 and will be joining the B’nei Mitzvah program in the fall.
I worked at the Tucson Jewish Community Center for the past 19 years. I began as a lead teacher and moved on to become the Judaic and Hebrew Coordinator.
Over the years I have taught in several Jewish institutions including Hebrew High, Tucson Hebrew Academy, and Anshei Israel’s religious school. My most recent position at the JCC was to coordinate special events for families.
I graduated from Central Arizona College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I have attended numerous Judaic and Education Conferences. I also attended NAEYC workshops and training seminars in my capacity as coordinator of new teacher training.
In 2003 I was presented with the Judaic Educator of The Year Award sponsored by The Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.

Education News New Religious School Program Needs Your Help!! by Brenda Landau
Religious School Electives have been a fast-paced opportunity for students to explore a Judaic interest with students of different ages and abilities. This year, we are trying something new. Instead of our short weekly electives offerings, we will be offering full-morning elective intensives four times a year. This way, students can delve more deeply into study, projects, and hands-on activities in a way they could not do before.
The new schedule allows for congregant volunteers to help make the program more exciting while creating opportunities for community building. With one of our teachers, you can share your Jewish skills—and some you never even knew were Jewish—in one, two, three or all of our sessions. Not the teaching type? Share your ideas with someone who is. We'll teach them for you. Think you don't have a skill worth sharing?
Think again. Here are just a few ideas we've been working on that need your help:
Jewish Law and Order–an opportunity to take a real event, look at it from a Jewish point of view and create a mock trial Social Action Sunday–field trip or school-based opportunity to participate in a hands-on project Jewish Needlepoint–we have the supplies but are missing the skilled instructor! Jewish Newspaper--the how-to and why of a Jewish newspaper Going Green–saving the earth from the Jewish perspective Jewish Cooking–what’s more Jewish than that? Jewish Drama--improv or create and perform a play Jewish Musical Performance--learn the music, create the instruments, perform Israel Experience–take a “dream” trip through Israel. Experience the lifestyle, army, food, geography . . . . Jewish ER or CSI -– medical ethics from the Jewish perspective Jewish Scrapbooking–making memories the Jewish way Jewish Video Production-–writing the script and filming the production
The list is limited only by your imagination and your willingness to help. If you have an idea, a skill to share, or know someone who might, call me at 512-8500 to set up an “interview” for this wonderful volunteer opportunity. Come join the fun!
