JFSA AWARDS THREE OR CHADASH MEMBERS
Each year, JFSA awards outstanding
members of the Jewish community for
various roles they have taken on as part
of their dedication to Judaism and to
Tucson. This year, three members of Or
Chadash received these special awards.
Amy Hirshberg Lederman was
awarded with the 2010 Meritorious Service
Award, Phyllis Braun was awarded
with the 2010 Community Professional
Award and Cate Rubin was awarded with
the Bryna Zehngut Award.
Cate Rubin (17) was presented with
this special award for being recognized as
an outstanding Jewish teenage girl. The
“Bryna Zehngut Mitzvot Award” was
created to honor one of our outstanding
leaders, Bryna Zehngut, of blessed memory.
An award was named after Bryna
because she personified the greatest assets
of the human spirit, displaying sincerity,
generosity, compassion, wisdom,
and righteousness. She exemplified the
beauty within our Torah by serving as a
model for doing Mitzvot.
MAKING FRIENDS AND
JOINING A CHAVURAH AT OC
If you are interested in joining a chavurah organized by our
newly energized Chavurah Committee, then you are in luck! We want
to help you find your place at Or Chadash and help you meet new and
old friends alike.
What is a chavurah? A chavurah is a group of adults, families,
couples, and/or singles, who meet monthly with or without children,
to share Jewish life in an extended-family type setting. It is for those
seeking a self-directed, intimate Jewish group experience with other
congregation members, willing to commit to work to build this
unique bond. Each chavurah decides its own blend of Jewish
learning, celebrations, and socializing.

THE NEW CARING COMMITTEE ...
Kehilat Chesed–Caring Community offers members
of our congregation the opportunity to redefine
our synagogue culture as a loving community that
sustains the spiritual, physical, and mental wellness
and growth of its members.
Our newly formed Caring Committee is dedicated
to serving any member of our congregation
in need. As we organize and grow our volunteers,
we will expand our ways of providing help. But we
are ready now and prepared to offer meal preparations
for families sitting Shiva, celebrating a new
birth or recuperating from surgery or illness. We
also are ready to offer Bikur Cholim, the Jewish
tradition of visiting the sick or elderly. We will visit
those in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing
homes, homebound and prisons.
Our dedicated Caring Committee members
are: Norma Palmer, Sharon Wittenberg, Sue
Simpson, Peter Marcus, Jim Whitehill, Mark and
Phyllis Gardner, Cathy Dorson, John Velez, Sheila
Peress, Susan Winkler, Diane Kerrihard, Ron
Kaufman and Harriet Kronman.
If you would like to join us and perform
Mitzvot or if you know someone affiliated with
Congregation Or Chadash who would welcome a
call from the Caring Committee, please let us
know. Call the Or Chadash office, 512-8500, or
Harriet Kronman, 205-1658.

Such A Deal! ...
Congregation Or Chadash invites newcomers to join our synagogue AND the Jewish Community Center and save 50% on dues at both places for the first year of membership, and 25% in the second year through the Tucson Jewish Community Reciprocity Program. This program is for families and individuals new to the Tucson area who are considering joining a synagogue and the JCC for the first time.
Congregation Or Chadash benefits in the long run when new, active members join our synagogue family. To take advantage of this opportunity, membership in Or Chadash and the JCC must be
established within 30 days of each other.
For more information, contact Sue Gawera, Director of Membership, or Lechele Chilton, Membership Associate, at the JCC, 299-3000.

NEW RECYCLING PROGRAM RAISES FUNDS FOR CONGREGATION
We’ve just joined the eScrip Recycling Program that can turn our recyclable cell phones and printer cartridges into cash for our congregation without any cost to us.
Deposit your recyclable cell phones and laser, or inkjet printer cartridges in the eScrip Recycling container at the office during regular hours. We will ship the phones and empty cartridges to eScrip Recycling which will then deposit funds electronically in our account!
If you have a business or know of a local business that uses inkjet or laser cartridges we can place a recycling container at their location and we’ll do the collection and handle the shipping of the items to eScrip.
This program will be successful with your help (and your printer cartridges). Thanks for recycling and for helping generate funds for Or Chadash.
For information, call David Weintraub, 290-5033, or email him at
