ABOUT CHAVURAH
by Beth Horn and Mitch Dorson

Our congregation’s growth is an enormous compliment to us as a community, and creates a need to provide new opportunities for members to connect with other congregants.

The chavurah concept is one way we can become closer to other families and the entire Or Chadash community. A chavurah is a group of adults, families, couples, or singles who meet every month, with, or without children, to share Jewish life in a smaller “extended family” setting outside the synagogue.

Chavurot are for those seeking a self-directed, intimate group experience with other congregants who are committed to building this unique bond.

Each chavurah decides its own blend of Jewish learning, celebrations, and socializing based on common interests such as Torah study, hiking, planning holiday celebrations, among many possible areas of concentration.

When chaverim (friends) from such groups come to the synagogue for worship, programs, or study, they have a greater sense of belonging, as their “extended family” is there, too. Our congregation has 10 chavurot and we are excited about creating even more! The Chavurah Committee is available to assist in this process. To be placed in a chavurah, please fill out the Chavurah Information Sheet on-line by clicking here (also available at the synagogue office), and return it to the office.

The Chavurah Committee looks forward to sharing this wonderful opportunity with you and will contact you soon.

For information, contact Beth Horn, at BTHorn37@comcast.net or Mitch Dorson at MDorson@greenfields.org

NEW RECYCLING PROGRAM RAISES FUNDS FOR CONGREGATION

We’ve just joined the eScrip Recycling Program that can turn our recyclable cell phones and printer cartridges into cash for our congregation without any cost to us. Deposit your recyclable cell phones and laser, or inkjet printer cartridges in the eScrip Recycling container at the office during regular hours. We will ship the phones and empty cartridges to eScrip Recycling which will then deposit funds electronically in our account!

If you have a business or know of a local business that uses inkjet or laser cartridges we can place a recycling container at their location and we’ll do the collection and handle the shipping of the items to eScrip.

This program will be successful with your help (and your printer cartridges). Thanks for recycling and for helping generate funds for Or Chadash.

For information, call David Weintraub, 290-5033, or email him at Dweintraub@earthlink.net

Make A Difference Day
Sunday, October 29th

Our Congregation provided helping hands for the fourth year at Make A Difference Day, starting at 8:00 a.m., Sunday, October 29th. This year we undertook a different type of undertaking—building an outdoor classroom and park for Desert Sky Middle School in Vail.
