Under the direction of Cantor Janece Cohen and Karla Ember, the Tucson Jewish Youth Choir (TJYC) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a concert on Mother’s Day. It will be at Handmaker on Sunday, May 9th at 2:00 p.m. A special treat for the audience, alumnae of the choir have been invited to perform in the concert. Come see this generation’s Jewish talent with 10 years worth of talent in wonderful Jewish music. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted to support our travel fund.

Cantor's Notes (April, 2010):

NOTES FROM THE CANTOR: TRIBUTE THANK YOU

Sunday night, February 14th was one of the most amazing evenings of my life. It was right out of a fairytale!

My dad, Seneca, brothers, Spencer and Russ, sister-in-law, Anat, niece, Lara and nephew, Jared were all there. My aunt and uncle, Art and Carole Glass, and my cousins, Scott and Irene Glass were there as well. Even my second cousin, Evan came from L.A. But the most incredible thing of all was the phone call I got on Sunday afternoon from my son Zachary, who is a first-year college student in Philadelphia. He called to chat and in the middle of the call, my doorbell rang. There was Zachary, cell phone in hand! My Dad flew him in as a surprise. Of course, I just stood there and cried. So Sunday night, I was surrounded by family and friends.

It was a truly wonderful night. From the delicious dinner, to the tribute speeches, to the fantastic performance by Encore!. I have never enjoyed myself more.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated, particularly the committee, which spent long hours working out all the details.

Thanks to those of you who donated items to the silent auction, and to those of you who bid on those items. I am told that the Tribute evening made twice the amount it had been expected to make!

Finally, thanks to all of you who made contributions in my honor to my discretionary fund. The money in that fund helps pay for special music programs, equipment, and non-budgeted items that help our congregation to thrive. I have truly found a home here at Or Chadash. Now for another 10 years of making beautiful music together!

    Musically Yours,

    Cantor Janece Cohen
